Traces of Solidarity

Traces of Solidarity – remnants of self-organised common welfare and care practices was an exhibition and a moment of exchange

Traces of Solidarity – remnants of self-organised common welfare and care practices was an exhibition and a moment of exchange with initiatives and artists who use artifacts, thoughts and feelings to shed light on queerfeminist perspectives from the Eastern European and Balkan diaspora. Curated by O and Sharmila Sharma, it took place on November 22.-24. 2024 in Gallery Grolman (Grolmanstr. 51). Following collectives took part: politicalkitchenberlin, nettlesandpoppies, macro.plate.now, dziewuchy_berlin, diasporacivicaberlin, wirsindhier_berlin, lets.unsettle, sabbath.berlin, feminist.translocalities, koopkultur, schoolofimpermanence.
Starting point of the exhibition was a collective moment on November 22. at the gallery – time to talk, an evening dedicated to sharing knowledge, practices and experiences among these diasporic eastern european collective practices in Berlin. In the last days and hours, the gallery slowly filled with artefacts, representing the work of the collectives – photos, videos, seeds, food, candles, earth, audio recordings, hand drawn table cloths, protest posters, leaflets, badges, etc. Now it is time to connect the dots and build a common ground. We come together to share a dinner and food for thought, collectively embodying the practices present in the gallery space.

A growing archive has emerged from the collected material: www.tracesofsolidarity.xyz
We want to grow with the bundled knowledge, share the content and continue to create a space for shared practice. You are welcome to share and publish your approaches via the website.

Curation:
Sharmila Sharma wants to build with you an honest, compassionate, political and encouraging space that facilitates dialogues and acts in solidarity. She has been working in the cultural and artistic field for over 10 years now. She’s fed up with the lack of critical spaces and the silencing of not listened voices.

Oliver Mateusz Gudzowski was also an important part of the Traces of Solidarity project. His ability to link critical discourses around urban practice with participatory methods helped to deepen the content of the project. His work on the conceptual development and communication of these topics contributed significantly to building bridges between different actors and local contexts.
