With its working group Urbane Praxis, the Council for the Arts (Rat für die Künste) launched an initiative, which in 2021 will show the cooperation and action field “Urbane Praxis” with Berlin-based actors in a network of city-wide campus projects. Using examples of various practices, also beyond Berlin, this podcast discusses perspectives and potentials of urban practice and why now is a good time to talk about it.

#19 – Urbanes Gärtnern w/ Gärten des Grauens (Ulf Soltau)
Once again it is far too dry in Berlin and the Senator for the Environment wants to prepare us for possible water rationing. So it makes sense to talk about urban gardening. Urban gardens can be used politically, in line with urban practice, to tackle urban challenges, promote sustainable development, support social justice and improve the quality of life in urban areas. But how can you garden efficiently and in a way that conserves resources in the city? What climatic challenges can arise and how can they be overcome? Which plant species are best suited for cultivation in confined urban spaces? And where else in Berlin are there areas that could be used for gardening?
We explore these and other practical questions in conversation with biologist Ulf Soltau.
