White Feminism Workshop
This workshop explores how security is constructed politically and what role gender plays in this process. Drawing on the concepts of securitization and white feminism, we examine how notions of threat arise and how criminalization, racism, and feminist discourses can reinforce one another. Together, we will discuss why white feminism does not have an emancipatory effect for everyone, but often contributes to the legitimization of exclusion and state control, and why the concept of femonationalism describes these connections more precisely. In doing so, we also focus on how social belonging in Germany is negotiated through debates on gender, religion, and security, and how these negotiations materialize in urban spaces—for example, through surveillance, urban planning, or the regulation of public spaces. The workshop invites participants to critically examine these mechanisms and to reflect on their own perspectives in the context of power, space, and inequality.
