The event will be held in a covered coworking space, so everything is easily accessible. We don't know if the room is on the first floor or the second floor, but there is an elevator. We haven't thought of any other equipment, but let us know if we can arrange anything.

Ubahn Bernauer Str. : 1mn
Tram Bernauer Strasse : 1mn

The presentation will be in English, two Germans and a Frenchman will give the presentation and will be available for translation.

There is a possibility to ask for contact persons.

There are toilets on the premises, currently there is no information how they are equipped.

There will be a light source (PowerPoint + daylight from the window) / noise source (presentation with speakers).
50 people are expected, not passers-by.

Food and drink will be provided, on a donation basis.

The program is suitable for children, even if it is not intended for them. I don't think there will be a gaming area since the event will be held in a coworking space.

We wish to treat each other with consideration and solidarity. All information about the awareness concept can be found here https://www.urbanepraxis.berlin/awareness/

Last May, Parasite Parking, a multifunctional platform made of wood, concrete and mirrors, landed in Berlin. Claiming an alternative use of the space occupied by cars in the city, it occupied empty parking spaces and transformed into a living space, a temporary stage or a neighborhood café. For ten days we slept on it, ate on it, organized concerts, watched movies, received friends and met local residents.
We wanted to explore what alternative uses exist in a post-car city and how we can resist urban planning that subordinates immediate human needs (housing, socio-cultural activities) to economic and mechanical constraints. Instead, we sought to create an imaginary post-car city in which these vacated spaces would form shared, free spaces accessible to all.

After some time, we noticed that some start-ups use the same terrain as we do – public space – and the same vocabulary: Reclaiming space, creating social connections, making the city “greener”… These new players also want to offer solutions for a vibrant and happy city, but in the form of private goods and services. So we asked ourselves: Why not create our own start-up?

Parasite Parking is now Wunder Parking: a startup that uses parking spaces for shared activities. Soon you will be able to book Wunder Parking on our website for one of the activities we have designed (having a coffee, organizing a concert, attending a film screening…). You just have to choose the place and duration and use the miracle parking alone, with friends or strangers.

We believe that Wunder Parking is a key solution to make cities greener and more vibrant at the same time. As prices are rising in Berlin, we offer you to satisfy your basic needs (eating, working, meeting friends, sleeping, dancing…) at a reduced price. And last but not least, we offer everyone, tourists and residents alike, the opportunity to have an authentic experience in the alternative city: living in the public space. Create your own moment on the streets of Berlin!

To celebrate, we invite you to the launch of our new company at Factory Berlin, the startup hub and business network, on September 9, 2023.

Event location:

Infront of Factory Berlin Mitte, Rheinsberger Str. 76/77, 10115 Berlin

Organization/ Initiative:

Parasite Parking is an intervention in public space that uses a multifunctional platform disguised as a parking lot. The platform can adapt to its paved environment or be easily reconfigured to create space for different uses: as a living space, a stage, a café or simply as a traditional parking lot. Parasite Parking is an uninvited guest on the spaces that should be available to us all, but are currently occupied only by the steel bodies of modernity.

After Chicago, Parasite Parking is now heading to Berlin to test the limits of public space by occupying parking spaces in different parts of the city. Let’s see how the host and the usual guests of these rooms will react.

Funded:

The event is part of the initiative DRAUSSENSTADT, funded by the Berlin Project Fund Urban Practice and the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
