Who owns the street where we live? Who owns the park where we all walk? What are we allowed to do in public space and who actually decides how it is to be designed and used?
moreHow do we as an urban society want to deal with public properties and with the commercialization of urban space? Ownership can be so many things and look so different. Most city dwellers don't think about it often in their daily lives and yet, whether consciously or not, we are confronted with this issue every day.As urban practitioners, we also address questions of ownership and self-determination in the socio-spatial transformation of our city. We use artistic methods to create alternative approaches to the production of space, with which city dwellers help to shape their immediate environment.After the successful PopUP week in 2022, Urbane Praxis e.V. is getting started again this year! Under the title Own your City! - Week of Urban Practice (in short: PRAXISWOCHE), we are organizing a conference format at various locations in Berlin that showcases urban transformation processes supported by civil society with artistic quality.Under the theme "Own your City!" workshops for participation, situational actions, as well as discourse events will take place in the urban space of Berlin between 05.09.-10.09.2023. The aim is to question the existing orders and complement them with new and different perspectives on city-and-others-making. Let yourself drift through the secret plant corners of Berlin on a raft tour; discover the invisible infrastructure of our city on walks along the canal or help build a fountain on a wasteland with young people. Discover with us the microcosm of the roofs of Wedding. Co-develop a film that reveals the invisible boundaries in the city and find out how Spätis can be the heart of our social infrastructure in the city. With workshops on How To Appropriation ("Own your City!"), your learned knowledge will be put to use in the long-term transformation of the city! The best way to end the days is with a cocktail of explosive discussions about the balance of power in the city, a sidewalk sauna, or your favorite karaoke songs to sing along to. Come on by!
