Urban Spa wins 10 m² Baukultur Preis

Action for the Convention of Baukultur 2024 award winners in cooperation with Urbane Praxis.

108 submissions, 356 participants, 2 schools, 41 universities, colleges, departments and ten projects for realization. The winners of the 10 m² Baukultur – We make space for 10 projects to be realized! have been announced.

The Federal Foundation of Baukultur and its support association called on students, trainees, pupils and educational institutions to submit project ideas for the redesign of parking lots. With the aim of reducing “stationary traffic” and using public spaces as meeting and recreation areas, ideas for activating and redesigning parking spaces should be developed. An interdisciplinary jury selected ten projects for realization from the submissions and awarded four special commendations.

The selected projects were characterized by their diversity: from low-threshold ideas to technically complex constructions, from social and leisure-oriented approaches to sculptural concepts. The winning projects will be presented at the Schirrhof in Potsdam, part of the Schiffbauergasse creative quarter, during the Convention of Building Culture on 19. and 20. June 2024 build.

The initiative is intended to raise awareness and curiosity and contribute to the current debate on the mobility transition. The first prize went to Leo Schrewe and Luis Schrewe from the Weißensee School of Art in collaboration with Material Mafia and the Freiraumlabor as well as Urbane Praxis e.V., who impressed the jury with their creativity and innovative approach.

Entitled “Urban Spa – Urban, Sauna, Community”, the project creates a unique space of urban tranquillity, a sauna that serves as a social meeting place and addresses the basic need for comfort and refreshment of body and soul in urban environments.
