Who makes the city and with which cultures and practices? How can a right to the city be formulated without bossiness? Berlin has long been characterized by stubbornly initiated buildings, self-organized spaces and a rich social culture. The right to the city is fought for and achieved by many through the arts, design, planning and action.

What can this toolbox do?

The aim of this glossary is to sharpen the understanding of “urban practice” through the polyphony of actors in urban practice and thus to work out central criteria and qualities of urban practice. The authors provide the most important concepts of urban practice for them or critically examine circulating terms. These are put online together with additional terms and a shadow index. Together, the contributions form not only a vocabulary on current urbanity and the need for urban and artistic action, but also a discourse on urban practice as such
