As part of the BfN-funded project, the city of Leipzig tested the creation of urban forests on three urban brownfield sites. In parallel, the accompanying scientific research coordinated by the TU Dresden used the test areas, but also a large number of older urban forests, to investigate the effect of forests on the natural balance and biodiversity in cities, on urban design and recreational suitability, urban redevelopment and the acceptance of the urban population. The aim was to develop a toolbox for the creation of urban forests, which is the subject of this Urban Forests homepage.

What can this toolbox do?

This toolbox shows that urban forests represent an integrative and innovative approach to urban development that can make a significant contribution to an attractive quality of life and environment in our cities!
