Urbane Praxis e.V. is committed to the interests of urban practitioners – people and initiatives who are actively involved in shaping vibrant, inclusive and sustainable cities. As a networking platform, the association connects civil society actors with administration and politics, promotes knowledge transfer and makes cross-departmental urban development issues visible.
The Urban Practice Network Office acts as an intermediary structure in Berlin. It connects actors from practice, administration and politics, supports initiatives, pools knowledge on self-organized urban design and organizes a variety of exchange formats. The network office sees itself as a central point of contact and source of inspiration for urban transformation processes.
Urbane Praxis e.V. is looking for two committed city makers as soon as possible – a managing project manager and a project manager for the Urbane Praxis network office – the intermediary interface between Berlin’s urban society, politics and administration.
Executive project management
Start: as soon as possible/ Duration: limited until 31.12.2025 (an extension is sought)/ Scope: approx. 20 hours/week (approx. 50%) Remuneration: based on TV-L 13 Berlin, (depending on qualifications and experience)/ Working where urban practice happens: Whether in the office, digitally or city-wide at projects and events – the workplace is as diverse as the city itself.
The tasks include:
1. strategic structural and organizational development
Strategic further development of discrimination-sensitive, sustainable and power-critical organizational and working structures in coordination with the organization’s Executive Board
Development and implementation of long-term goals, operating and financing models, taking into account participatory and power-critical approaches
2. overall responsibility for the strategic orientation, planning, management and implementation of the central projects of the sponsoring association
Management and development of the team with special consideration of discrimination-sensitive, participative and power-reflective management approaches
Designing and managing participatory processes for decision-making and promoting shared responsibility
3. strategic establishment, maintenance and further development of relevant key partnerships to strengthen the position and impact of the organization
Representation of the organization in political, civil society and institutional contexts at state and federal level
Representation in committees, specialist events and public forums for profile building and representation of interests
4. overall responsibility for financial planning, budget monitoring and controlling of the organization
Control of funding management including application, use of funds, accounting and proof of use in coordination with the organization’s board of directors
Negotiating and concluding contracts with funding bodies and cooperation partners
5. strategic communication of civil society perspectives, concerns and needs to the administration, politicians and other relevant stakeholders
Establishing and maintaining a continuous dialogue with senate administrations, district offices, cultural and urban policy spokespersons and other intermediary organizations
Positioning the organization as a relevant, diversity- and solution-oriented interface between civil society and political decision-makers
Prerequisites:
Requirements profile/skills:
– Completed university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (e.g. urban development, cultural management, art, social sciences, architecture, environment, social work, education)
– Proven experience in a management position, ideally in a non-profit or interdisciplinary context
– Experience in strategic management and organizational development, preferably with a power-critical and participatory approach
– Management experience, especially in dealing with diverse, interdisciplinary teams
– Confident handling of budget responsibility, funding management as well as administrative and legal framework conditions in the non-profit sector
– Very good written and oral communication skills in German (at least C1); knowledge of English at B2 level
Also advantageous are:
– Experience in inter- and post-disciplinary cooperation, especially at the interface of civil society, art, culture and urban development
– Knowledge of the Berlin administrative and political landscape and the relevant local stakeholder structures
– Good networking in relevant scenes such as urban practice, socioculture, independent scene or transdisciplinary urban development initiatives
– Practical experience with projects in public spaces (e.g. in the form of events, artistic interventions, spatial installations or urban political actions)
– Understanding of approval processes and funding structures, ideally across all project phases – from idea to billing
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend appointments and active participation in networking events and committees
Project leadership and management network office
Start: as soon as possible/ Duration: limited until 31.12.2025 (an extension is sought)/ Scope: approx. 30 hours/week (approx. 75%) Remuneration: based on TV-L 12-13 Berlin (collective agreement of the federal states), (depending on qualifications and experience)/ Working where urban practice happens: Whether in the office, digitally or city-wide at projects and events – the workplace is as diverse as the city itself.
The tasks include:
1. project management and coordination
Independent planning, management and implementation of the >>Urban Practice Network Center< project
Task and team coordination, taking into account participative and power-critical work approaches
2. network development and maintenance with diversity sensitivity
Strategic expansion and maintenance of networks with civil society actors, administration and politics
Promotion of discrimination-sensitive and inclusive cooperation
3. knowledge transfer and consulting
Support for urban design initiatives in project development and implementation
Advice on funding opportunities (art/culture, urban development, social affairs, environment) at district, state and federal level
Information on founding an association, suitable forms of organization, permits, etc.
Collection, preparation and creation of information materials and practice-oriented assistance for urban actors
5. event organization and moderation
Conception, organization and, if necessary, moderation of public events such as workshops, conferences, discourse and networking formats
Development of creative, inclusive and participative formats on current topics of urban practice
6. financial management
Collaboration in the creation and monitoring of budget plans
Collaboration in funding management, contract management, accounting and controlling
Documentation and reporting
Prerequisites:
Requirements profile/ skills:
– Completed university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (e.g. urban development, cultural management, art, social sciences, architecture, environment, social work, education)
– At least 3 years of professional experience in project management/project leadership, ideally in public welfare-oriented or interdisciplinary contexts
– Experience in the independent planning, management and implementation of complex projects – preferably with public funding
– Confident handling of budget responsibility, funding management and controlling
– Experience in team coordination and task management, preferably in participative and power-critical work contexts
– Very good communication skills and a confident manner towards administration, politics and cooperation partners
– Diversity competence and a discrimination-sensitive and low-barrier approach to work
– Proactive action and participation-oriented networking
– Very good written and oral communication skills in German (at least C1); knowledge of English at B2 level
Also advantageous are:
– Experience in inter- and post-disciplinary cooperation, especially at the interface of civil society, art, culture and urban development
– Knowledge of Berlin’s administrative and funding structures as well as the relevant local stakeholder structures or the willingness to familiarize yourself with them quickly
– Good networking in relevant scenes such as urban practice, socioculture, independent scene or transdisciplinary urban development initiatives
– Practical experience with projects in public spaces (e.g. in the form of events, artistic interventions, spatial installations or urban political actions)
– Understanding of approval processes and funding structures, ideally across all project phases – from idea to billing
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend appointments and active participation in networking events and committees
