The Torhaus is a 55m2 gatehouse directly at Columbiadamm 10. If you are planning to visit the Torhaus, you can find information on access and possible barriers here.
The entrance door on the Columbiadamm side is 88cm wide and therefore not barrier-free. However, there is a second entrance door at the back, which is 90 cm wide and has a ramp for wheelchair users. The gatehouse itself stands on a 10 meter wide sidewalk with a 10 cm high curb.

If you are using public transportation, the U6 is the best option to get to Platz der Luftbrücke. There is an elevator at the Platz der Luftbrücke subway station. The path from the station to the gatehouse is about 500 meters long and asphalted.

There is a large parking lot directly opposite the gatehouse, which is subject to a charge. Sometimes the parking lot is closed because events are taking place at the airport. You are welcome to contact us before your visit to find out if the parking spaces are available.

The gender-neutral restroom in the Torhaus is not barrier-free. The nearest accessible toilet is located in the airport building. If an event is taking place in the Torhaus, we can spontaneously contact the building staff to provide access to the barrier-free toilet. The distance from the gatehouse to the barrier-free toilet is about 800 meters.

We try to create a relaxed atmosphere at events in the Torhaus. We adhere to awareness guidelines that apply to everyone present. Awareness means that together we create a space in which we treat each other with respect and respect each other's boundaries. We therefore do not tolerate any form of racism, sexism, ableism, anti-Semitism, queer and trans hostility or any other discriminatory, violent behavior. If you observe something or are affected by assaultive, discriminatory behavior yourself, you can contact the organizers at the Torhaus at any time.

Many barriers are not directly visible. For us, acting more inclusively means considering invisible disabilities, limitations and challenges at events and creating the best possible access. However, we work a lot on a voluntary basis and cannot guarantee that we always have everything in view. If you have any criticism or suggestions to make the Torhaus a more inclusive place, please contact us at any time or write an email to: info@torhausberlin.de.

If you need more information on access and barriers before your visit, please feel free to contact us at the following e-mail address: info@torhausberlin.de

18:00 Film screening Cem Kaya – Love, D Mark and Death (German, Turkish and English spoken language – English subtitles)

In the early 1960s, so-called guest workers from Anatolia and other parts of Turkey were recruited by the Federal Republic of Germany. From the very beginning, there was something that always accompanied them and was part of their culture: their music – a piece of home in a foreign country. Over the years, independent musical styles developed in Germany that did not exist in this form in the mother country. This unprecedented story of an independent musical culture of immigrants from Turkey, their children and grandchildren in Germany is told in an entertaining and multi-layered way in the exciting cinema documentary ‘Aşk Mark ve Ölüm’ / LOVE, D-MARK AND DEATH by Cem Kaya, using archive material that has never been seen before. Far from home, strangers in a new country, melancholic musical styles such as Gurbetçi songs (songs from a foreign land) emerged at the beginning of immigration. Presented by artists such as Yüksel Özkasap, the Nightingale of Cologne, or Aşık Metin Türköz (‘Mayestero’).

They were followed by younger musicians such as the duo Derdiyoklar (‘Liebe Gabi’), Ozan Ata Canani (‘Deutsche Freunde’) or Cem Karaca and the Kanaken (‘Mein Freund, der Deutsche’), who sang in German for the first time in their socially critical songs, thereby shaping both migrant and German pop culture. Hip hop became the mouthpiece of the second and third generation of people who had grown up in Germany. Pioneers of German-Turkish hip hop such as Fresh Familee, King Size Terror and Islamic Force paved the way for contemporary pop music in Germany.
