Liminale Nacht

Make-up e.V. indra.kuester@posteo.de make-up.space englisch, deutsch Papierstraße 11., 13409 Berlin
IN BRIEF: The Liminale Night is an evening between, sauna, karaoke and film dedicated to the appropriation of the urban.

The courtyard is accessible from the street without barriers. The floor is largely concrete and pavement and some wood chips. A large part of the event will take place there. Unfortunately, we do not have a barrier-free toilet and the saunas are also not accessible barrier-free.
The place has a trans and queer friendly atmosphere.

By car: parking is right in front of the gate (5-20 m). This is a parking zone, but it is rarely controlled. Free parking is available in the vicinity (100-500 m).
By public transport: The closest subway station is Osloer Str. (approx. 1 km), the closest S-Bahn Schönhauser Allee (approx. 1 km). From both places you can take a bus that stops about 100 meters from the venue.

The main language of the event is English and German. However, Arabic, Russian and Spanish are also spoken. The descriptions are in simple language and there are local people who are happy to help anyone who needs or wants help.

The toilet is gender-neutral, however, not accessible barrier-free and relatively narrow, so there is no changing facility there.

The event will be illuminated with various light sources, mainly indirectly. There are mattresses and sofas where you can retreat, but they are located in the event area and not off to the side. There is no road noise. There will be music and karaoke, so this is not a silent event. We expect 80-150 people.

At the bar will be available non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages at low prices. There are stone-baked pizza is available quite günsitg relatively. Possibly there will be soup on a donation basis, it is not yet certain. in the 1 km radius there are several possibilities to buy food, from supermarket to restaurant or kebab.

The event is open to children. However, there is no special children's program and it is not directly adapted to the needs of children.

We wish to treat each other with consideration and solidarity. All information about the awareness concept can be found here https://www.urbanepraxis.berlin/awareness/

IN BRIEF: The Liminale Night is an evening between, sauna, karaoke and film dedicated to the appropriation of the urban. A bit more detailed: The Liminale Night is a place for encounters in the in-between space. It is scheduled for 9.9. will take place at Make up e.V. in Papierstraße 11 in Berlin-Reinickendorf. The Make up is a studio, event and networking space. In a converted, temporarily used carpenter’s workshop, art, feminism and the question of the right to the city are linked here.

Here at the Ruderalen we would like to invite you to a liminal night between sauna, karaoke, film, celebration and networking. The MoMo sauna appropriates the sidewalk and the SweatX sauna the roof, unnoticed spaces of the ruderal become wellness places for all for one night. Karaoke hosted by Tom Mayer encourages singing. The texts are thrown on the wall of the neighboring factory. Whoever wants can appropriate the factory wall by green-screen magic as a ‘backing dancer’. In between, the short film “Heaven and Hell” by the initiative “Operation Himmelblick” asks the question: Who owns the roofs? And can the roofs be a place for urban community and liveliness, be that oevre that Henri Lefebvre dreamed of? Questions that can be discussed with the producers of the film.

This is accompanied by homemade stone-baked pizza from the pizza oven connected to the old factory chimney. The bar is open, the bonfire and fireplace provide coziness and the opportunity to lose yourself in conversation and find yourself in new friendships.

Thus, Liminale Night aims to create a space where urban activists and utopians, neighbors, artists, and workers from the neighboring factory can come together to celebrate the urban in its complexity. By making seemingly utopian things come alive, the night aims to encourage people to allow urban dreams to come true, to believe in their realization, and to have the courage to appropriate the city’s niches themselves, turning them into places of gathering and poetry.
