The station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf is a decentralized location of the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK) in the large housing estate Berlin-Hellersdorf. With a program of discursive events, exhibitions and interventions in public space, artists and residents work together on the development of the district. With a program of discursive events, exhibitions and interventions in public space, the artists and residents work together on the development of the district.
Since 2014, the initiators have held over 100 events in Hellersdorf, brought in local, national, and international artists, and collaborated with numerous partners in the district and throughout Berlin. They have established binding relationships with residents and local partners in the fields of education, inclusion, children and youth work, culture, nature conservation, sports, urban development, and others.
With the exhibition space station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf and the green space Place Internationale, this practice has two very different spaces for reflection, debate and collaboration with the neighborhood public. The nGbK Hellersdorf thus shapes the research area of the “City of Outside” through artistic production, mediation and networking.
Under the heading “Utopian”, the focus for station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf in 2023 is the question of how we can think about a “day after tomorrow” beyond the crises and dystopias of today. What could be “Utopian” today, without repeating historical utopias and knowing that young people are calling themselves “Last Generation” while imagining the end of the world?
