»Transforming Solidarities« examines how practices and infrastructures of solidarity are conditioned and transformed by present-day digitality and migration/mobility. Our exploration centers the arenas of labor, health, and housing in Berlin as an exemplary ›laboratory‹ of migration society in order to chart how solidarity is negotiated, lived, and secured in the long run. We speak of solidarity in migration society because we do not approach migration and other forms of diversity as a threat to social cohesion but as a social reality.

In close and sustained collaboration with urban actors, the aim of the project is to generate new ways of knowledge production in order to better understand the specific ways in which solidarity is forged, negotiated, and practiced. In this way, the project intends to contribute to an empirically founded social theory of transformative and transforming solidarities in order to further the development of alternative practices and infrastructures that enable solidarity in our global migration society.
